Kane's relationship with Stevie and Alex strains their friendship. Unaware that each is competing for Kane's attention, Alex as a mate, Stevie as a lover; they also have no idea that Kane is using them both for his own advantage. When Kane makes a play for Stevie which causes her to forget a previous engagement with Alex, the friendship is very close to falling apart.
Luke is enjoying working with Terry whom he is fast seeing as a father figure. Wanting to make his mark on the truckstop, Luke takes advantage of Terry's temporary absence and buys a load of cheap fuel. Very quickly vehicles in the district are breaking down. Harry puts two and two together and deduces that Terry's truck stop has been selling dirty fuel. Terry innocently defends himself and Luke who, overhearing the accusation, tries to fix the problem.
Terry catches Luke trying to filter the dirty fuel late at night. On the verge of firing Luke, Terry decides instead to help him fix the problem. The next day, as Harry publicly accuses Terry of selling contaminated fuel, Luke slinks back to the truckstop with his tail between his legs, hoping to make amends. Terry takes the blame for the fuel and, knowing that Luke was only trying to do "good works" agrees to keep Luke on.
A letter from her parents gets Kate worrying about her career. She pesters Tess for a promotion and when Tess gives her a title to go with her work plan, Jodi's nose is out of joint. She wants a title too because she has no intention of being bossed around by Kate. Tess sets the girls a series of tasks and the competition is on. A battle of wills ensues but when they realize they are taking the competition to dangerous levels, the girls decide it is better to try to resolve their differences.
